Protecting Plants from the Cold

With winter right around the corner we should give thought to our tender plants that might be harmed by the cold. To often new arrivals to the area find out how quickly a jade plant will succumb to the cold. It seems every year we hear about another one of these plants that someone had trudged all the way from the Bay area, Southern California Cal, etc. The water in the succulent stems and leaves can crystallize with the cold...

Event Tent

Next time your in the store check out our new events tent in the “Picnic Area”. This space will be used for our workshops as well as other events throughout the year. It has clear sides so you can see out and is heated as needed. This allows us to contiue with events even if the weather turns against us. The picnic area is available for select groups. To see if it would work for you talk to Trey or Monica.

Ask a Question Today!

Q:  What do we do about gophers? We've planted a small orchard, other trees & shrubs, flower beds, & raised bed vegetable garden & the gophers have managed to get into everything.  We've put wire down in the raised beds but they still got in.  They eat the roots, pull the whole plant down into the hole or just chop them off at the roots.  The final straw is they are messing with my Japanese Maple.  What can we do?

Q: My grandma has a lemon tree in redwood city and it's planted in the ground. She just moved up to Placerville but it's too big to take with her! Is there a way that we can take a clipping and how if it's possible can I do this? I also have seeds from the tree but I know that will take a long time to grow..longer than she can wait???.

Q: Is it time to prune back my crape mrytles? They are about 4 feet high, and how much do I prune? How do I get them winter ready?

Stop In!

Enjoy coffee, tea, or hot chocolate next time you visit. Located inside the “Old House” gift shop is our new Tassimo Coffee Maker. Each cup is brewed individually and is self-serve. Instructions are posted, or we would love to show you how it works. We tried this revolutionary coffee maker at home and loved it so much we now have one here. As a long time coffee aficionado I am quite pleased with the taste.
